This was written for the 10.30 service at Tilehurst Methodist Church on January 5ht 2020, which was Epiphany Sunday. I've always liked the tune and chorus of "Arise, shine, your light has come" but I've never been fond of the lyrics - partly because they just don't scan, in my opinion.
1. Starlight fills the void; shouts "God is here!"
Travellers lift their eyes, searching for the Son.
For the one whose birth was long foretold
has arrived among the poor and cold:
humble, he comes to us in love.
Chorus:
Arise, shine, your light has come,
the glory of the Lord has risen on you!
Arise, shine, your light has come,
Jesus the Light of the world has come.
2. Light, still with us now, shines through our lives;
God remains today, blessing us in grace.
For the Spirit moves among us here
As our lives progress from year to year.
Timeless, God's love continues on.
Chorus:
Arise, shine, your light has come,
the glory of the Lord has risen on you!
Arise, shine, your light has come,
Jesus the Light of the world has come.
3. Let us, now as then, search for the Son.
Bring our gifts and lives, all in praise of God.
May the one whose blessing spans the Earth,
who declares that every soul has worth,
bind us, and make us one in love.
Chorus:
Arise, shine, your light has come,
the glory of the Lord has risen on you!
Arise, shine, your light has come,
Jesus the Light of the world,
Jesus the Light of the world,
Jesus the Light of the world has come.
