Special rules

Founding phase
Each player must build both settlements on the same island. This is then known as their home island, with the other becoming the neighbour island.

Trade routes
Special victory points are available for trade routes between the two islands. There are various types of trade routes:

Branches are permitted - if an opponent has a ship line connecting two buildings on the same island, a line of ships joining a building on the other island to the opponent's ship line counts as two indirect trade routes.

Trade routes end at buildings - you cannot claim to have many trade routes by connecting to one building which is in turn connected to many others.
